The Color Purple | 3 Tips to Add Color to Your Wardrobe
“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it.”
― Alice Walker, The Color Purple
The quote above is one (of many) of my favorites from the book and movie, The Color Purple.

So, I appreciate a royal purple and how it looks on others, but it does not make my list of favorites to wear. This may be hard to believe, given that my favorite color is green, and green and purple ( violet) are often paired using color theory from the color wheel.
But it is true. I have several purple accessories and lipsticks, but I do not have purple clothing. Well, I did not until recently.
3 Tips to Purple Color to Your Wardrobe
The few purple items I own have been gifts. But, as I continued to evaluate my wardrobe, I decided there was room for purple, and I figured out how to add it with the style tips below.
Incorporating a new color into your wardrobe can be a great way to elevate and have fun with your style. Try adding a pop of color to your accessories like shoes, scarves, or jewelry. If you are a makeup wearer, you can also add it there.
Style tip: If you do not normally wear a specific color, add it to your wardrobe in small ways.
One easy way to add purple to your wardrobe is to pair a purple shirt or sweater with a skirt, pants, or dress.
Style tip: You can add color by layering a piece in that color under something else, like a sweater or shirt.
Choose a print or pattern you love that includes the color you want to introduce (my favorite).
Style tip: Choose shades of purple in your favorite pattern or print that complements your skin tone and style.

Y’all, take a moment and forget about the fashion rules and trends! Instead, let’s have fun and experiment with different combinations until we find something we love!
Side note: You know I love a good sale, and I decided to purchase a purple item or two. And then, lo and behold, I found a purple turtle neck Sergio Hudson dress on clearance ( for $14) during a Target run. It is the dress I am wearing in the picture, along with my uber-comfortable leopard print Coach booties.
Anyway, with “ a bold new take on the beloved classic,” The Color Purple releases in theatres on Christmas Day, so we must get our purple outfits together! So, how do you feel about the color purple? Is it a staple in your wardrobe or a color that you need to introduce? And what do you think about the new movie? Please let me know in the comments below.
Until next time, remember to mark your life with beauty!
